We provide an identification service for the evidence of asbestos in samples of material commonly found in homes and businesses.
Although thousands of products were made with asbestos the most common products used in buildings are fibre cement,
thermal insulation, vinyl tiles, bitumen fibrous backing and pipe lagging.
Anyone is welcome to bring a sample no larger than a 20 cent coin, into our office personally for analysis.
We charge $88.00 (including GST) for each sample analysed. Please pay by cheque or money order if sending your sample through the mail or make arrangements with us directly for EFT details.
Spraying water on the area to be tested will help contain
any potential fibre release. Manually break off a small
piece (1-3 cm in diameter) with pliers or cut vinyl with a
pair of scissors. Place sample into 2 plastic bags (double
zip lock bags are preferred). Seal any exposed areas with
products such as hair spray inside or paint (or PVA
dilution) on external surfaces.
Caution: Do not
use power tools as this may release fibres into the air.
The sample should be small. Around the size of a 20 cent piece is ideal.
Please include your name and contact details (phone number and email address). We prefer you to provide us with details of the location of the sample (eg. external wall cladding or bathroom wall lining) and the address of the property so that this can be included in the written report.
Verbally: We will telephone to give you with a verbal result
as soon as the analysis is completed. Generally for fibre
cement and most products we provide a verbal report within 4
hours. Vinyl products may require more than 24 hours if
x-ray diffraction analysis is required.
Written: The typed report will be sent to you by email or
post.
