Asbestos Fibre Cement

Asbestos fibre cement is a rigid building product made from a mixture of cement reinforced with asbestos fibres, providing strength, weather resistance, and thermal stability. It was extensively used in wall cladding, eaves, soffits, fencing, roofing, and infill panels.

Typically considered a bonded asbestos material, fibre cement presents a lower immediate risk when in good condition and properly maintained. Over time, however, exposure to weathering, impact, or building movement can cause cracking, delamination, or surface erosion, increasing the likelihood of fibre release if disturbed. Activities such as cutting, sanding, drilling, or pressure cleaning should never be undertaken without proper assessment.

Identification by a competent professional is essential to ensure appropriate management, repair, encapsulation, or licensed removal where required.
